LANA M. ACKAWAY is in private practice in Manhattan for over 27 years. She is a co-founder of Heart To Heart, a high-quality professional consultation service for consumers who have not accessed or have had prior unsatisfactory experiences with psychotherapy or other mental health services. Ms. Ackaway evaluates and treats young adults and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosomatic and addiction disorders with special emphasis on career, relationship issues and aging. Areas of specialization include quality assessment, early intervention and individual and group counseling/psychotherapy for individuals during major life transitions – endings (losses) and new beginnings. Leads psychotherapy/counseling groups dealing with divorce, early sobriety/relapse, a new relationship, change of career, illness in spouse, sports related injuries, etc. Ms. Ackaway also provides consumers with expert second opinions in mental health, carefully evaluating what might have been overlooked over time. Ms. Ackaway is a resource to the New York Women’s Sports Medical Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She works with clients with issues of abuse/neglect, core losses, post-traumatic stressors and resistance to change, helping them effectively manage transitions and major change, e.g., work/career motivation, self-esteem and clear communication. Many clients have resolved personal emotional conflicts and gained the ability to maintain commitment and decision making abilities in love and work. Ms. Ackaway does home visits for clients unable to get to her office.
